What can I expect in terms of weather?

Denver has a continental semi-arid climate (Köppen classification: BSk) characterized by low humidity and abundant sunshine. While summertime high temperatures often push into the 90s, the high-desert and low humidity makes the heat feel more tolerable than in humid regions experiencing similar temperatures. However UV levels can be high due to Denver's elevation, which combined with the abundant sunshine means sunscreen and sunglasses, as well as staying hydrated, are a must. That previously mentioned low humidity also allows for high diurnal temperature variations, where overnight temperatures can drop into the 60s, sometimes cooler. We recommend dressing in layers to stay comfortable when transitioning from hot days to cooler evenings. Due to its location at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, the region can also be subject to sudden changes in weather. August is part of Denver's monsoon season, which brings with it the chance of afternoon thunderstorms. These storms are usually brief and highly localized, but can bring heavy rain, lightning, and occasional hail. To summarize: bring sunglasses, sunscreen, stay hydrated, wear layers, and be prepared for anything.
